Nearby, Inverary Jail and Castle transport one back in time as do the Kilmartin Glen prehistoric standing stones, and it is always fascinating to watch boats making their way through the many locks of the Crinan Canal (6 miles). The wild terrain is wonderful for outdoor enthusiasts and walkers, and golf and pony trekking are available nearby. The rugged scenery and abundant wildlife of the islands of Colonsay and Jura are easily accessible as are trips to Mull, Coll and Tiree from Oban.
